Custom Kids Cowboy Hats

Every build starts with a base hat. Kids bases use a smaller crown and a narrower brim than adult hats, and they come in the same shapes and colors. The base sets most of the final price. Our kids hats start at $75, against $160 for our entry adult hat.

The band is the piece children choose first. An engraved leather band can carry a first name, a nickname or a small design, and it is the most requested personalization on a kids hat. Braided cord, ribbon and beaded bands are all options on the same base.

A name patch or a set of initials is what makes a hat that child's hat rather than a hat in their size. Patches sit on the crown or the band, and initials can be set in leather, metal or stitched thread. This is the detail parents ask for most when the hat is a gift.

Lettering across the front of the crown spells out a name, a number or a word. Rhinestone letters catch light and read from a distance, which is why they show up in arena photos and on stage. Metal and leather letters give the same effect in a quieter finish.

Hardware is priced by the piece, so a kids hat is easy to keep to a set number. Two or three pieces is typical for a child, where adults often add five or six. Conchos, pins, charms, coins and feathers all attach to the band and can be swapped out later.

A brand mark is pressed into the hat with a heated iron, the same way cattle brands were made. Initials, a star, a horseshoe or a small ranch-style mark all work. It is the one detail that cannot be taken off and put on another hat, and it is the one kids remember.
